Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is an innovative technology of data acquisition and automatic identification. It uses electromagnetic waves, which provide power to the devices contain the information (tags) and which communicate with the read/write systems (or RFID terminals). The tag is physically coupled to the object that has to be identified, enriching it with information content throughout its life path. Each time that a tag is located in close proximity to an RFID terminal, it is identified, and all the information related to the object it tags can be traced to well. The RFID terminal is able to interact with information management systems, connecting the tagged object (and the associated information) with the management system of the process, allowing important optimizations and the possibility of adapting the process to the characteristics of the identified object. An RFID system is the set of technological components that make an identification solution and controlled data acquisition without the need for direct or visual contact between the components.
